Itinerary

Day 01Guwahati Arrival and Drive to Cherrapunjee

  • Arrive at Guwahati Airport or Railway Station (ideally before 9 AM).
  • Meet your driver and start your journey toward Cherrapunjee.
  • Stoppage at Umiam Lake, where the wide open water sits quiet beneath thick pine forests.
  • Another break at Mawkdok Viewpoint, a deep V-shaped valley full of mist and green folds.
  • Continue driving through mountain roads until you reach Cherrapunjee.
  • Check in to your hotel for the night.

The first day builds slowly—the open skies, the curves of the hills, the way the air shifts as you climb higher. It feels like a doorway into something you’ll want to stay in longer.

Day 02Double Decker Living Root Bridge Trek

  • Breakfast early, lace up good shoes, and head out.
  • Short drive to Tyrna village, where your trek begins.
  • Follow stone steps and winding paths through forests to reach the famous Double Decker Living Root Bridge.
  • Spend time near the river, watch the way the roots have shaped the bridges over time, and rest a while before the trek back.
  • Evening return to Cherrapunjee.

Trekking down is easy, the way back reminds you why Meghalaya builds patience into everything. You don’t rush here—you move like the rivers, steady and sure.

Day 03Cherrapunjee to Shnongpdeng via Mawlynnong

  • Check out and head toward Shnongpdeng.
  • Pause first at Nohkalikai Falls, a tall curtain of water dropping straight from the cliffs.
  • Visit Mawlynnong Village, where the streets are swept clean by hand and gardens spill over walls.
  • Move on to Shnongpdeng for the night.

The shift from hills to rivers feels seamless. You’ll see how even the smallest villages in Meghalaya carry a kind of quiet pride you don’t find everywhere.

Day 04Umngot River Adventure and Drive to Shillong

  • Morning by the Umngot River. Take a boat ride or just sit by the banks and watch boats glide over the riverbed stones you can see beneath your feet.
  • Afterward, visit Krang Shuri Falls in Jowai—a wide blue waterfall with a pool that looks too perfect to be real.
  • Later in the afternoon, drive toward Shillong, reaching by evening.

This day slows everything down. Water everywhere you look—still, flowing, crashing—and time to just be near it without needing to fill the silence.

Day 05Laitlum Canyon and Return to Guwahati

  • Early breakfast and check-out.
  • Before heading to Guwahati, visit Laitlum Canyon.
  • Walk to the edges where the hills drop away and the wind carries every sound farther than you can see.
  • Drive back to Guwahati for your flight or train (departures after 4 PM recommended).

A quiet morning to match the weight of the views. Some trips end with a rush; this one ends by reminding you how wide and full the world still feels.
