Overview

Some trips are better with your favorite people—and this is one of them. Sikkim and Darjeeling feel like they were made for road trip playlists, unfiltered photos, and those “remember when…” stories that only make sense to your crew.

If you’re planning that long-overdue gang getaway or the yearly college reunion trip, this week across the hills brings the right mix of cold air, scenic roads, group selfies, and spontaneous chai breaks. ...Read More

Itinerary

Day 01Touchdown at Bagdogra, Drive to Gangtok

  • Pick-up from Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station
  • Scenic 4-hour drive to Gangtok with music, tea stalls, and views
  • Check in, refresh, and head to MG Marg if you’ve got energy left
  • Overnight stay in Gangtok

Nothing screams “trip with friends” like piling into a van, catching your first glimpse of the hills, and arriving in Gangtok just in time to stretch your legs at the local cafés on MG Marg.

Day 02 Gangtok’s Hidden Corners and Group Adventures

  • Start with a local breakfast
  • Explore Rumtek or Ranka Monastery—group pic spot #1
  • Head to Banjhakri Waterfalls for that one friend who always carries a GoPro
  • Chill at Ganesh Tok & Tashi Viewpoint
  • Visit Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (if you’re into local history or just cool architecture)
  • Wrap up with a relaxed evening and dinner with a view
  • Overnight in Gangtok

This is the day where everyone figures out what kind of traveler they are—and still manages to have a blast doing it together.

Day 03High Altitude Vibes at Tsomgo Lake + Baba Mandir (Nathula if you’re lucky)

  • Early drive to Tsomgo Lake—ice, flags, and your breath catching in the cold
  • Stop at Baba Mandir for a story that sticks
  • Pre-arranged Nathula Pass visit for those with permits (and guts for the altitude)
  • Return to Gangtok by evening
  • Free time to chill, shop, or just hang out

When you’re standing beside a frozen lake at 12,000 feet with your oldest friends—it’s hard to explain that moment, and you won’t need to.

Day 04Offbeat Road Trip to Lachung

  • Early start for a 5–6 hour drive to Lachung
  • Scenic detours, lunch at Chungthang, and endless playlists
  • Check-in to your cozy stay and soak in the silence (or play cards till late)
  • Overnight stay in Lachung

This stretch of the journey has less chatter and more wide-eyed staring out the window. And somehow, that feels perfect too.

Day 05The Valley of Flowers (Yumthang), Then Back to Gangtok

  • Short morning ride to Yumthang Valley
  • Hot springs and unreal landscapes—bring sunglasses, it’s blindingly beautiful
  • Head back to Gangtok after lunch
  • Evening back in the city—think street food, lazy walks, and a quiet unwind
  • Overnight stay in Gangtok

This day feels like stepping into a postcard. You’ll take 200 photos. Keep three. Remember all of it.

Day 06Roll Into Darjeeling with Some Stopovers on the Way

  • Drive to Darjeeling (approx. 5 hours)
  • Drop your bags, head out to Ghoom Monastery then Batasia Loop (toy train lovers, this is your stop)
  • You’ll also get a chance to explore Tenzing Rock and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Tea gardens, Tibetan refugee markets
  • Overnight stay in Darjeeling

It’s a little nostalgic, a little chaotic, and 100% classic hill station energy. And from the refugee markets, you can get those cable-knit sweaters no one needs but everyone buys.

Day 07Sunrise Ritual at Tiger Hill + Departure

  • Wake up early (really early) and ride out to Tiger Hill
  • Watch the sky open up over Kanchenjunga
  • Return to hotel for breakfast
  • Drive back to Bagdogra Airport / NJP Railway Station
  • Say goodbye, plan your next one on the way

You’ll leave tired, full, and already looking at the calendar for the next trip. That’s how it should be.

Tips to Make Your Sikkim Group Trip Even Better
  • Pack light, but pack smart. Layers are your best friend—mornings can be freezing, and afternoons can surprise you with sun. Don’t forget your hoodie, rain jacket, and something to chill in.
  • Motion sickness is real on hill roads. If anyone in your group is prone to it, carry meds before you regret that second plate of thukpa mid-drive.
  • Download offline maps. Internet gets patchy, especially in North Sikkim. Plan ahead if you’re the “let’s look it up” person in the group.
  • Permits take time. Always share IDs and photos with your tour operator at least a week in advance—especially if you’re covering areas like Tsomgo Lake or Lachung.
  • Carry cash always. ATMs can run dry, and card machines aren’t everywhere. Carry small notes for tea, snacks, or picking up that random keychain everyone ends up buying.
  • Respect the silence. Some monasteries and villages ask for quiet—not everything needs to go on Instagram with music blaring.
  • Always leave time for chai. The best views often show up at random roadside stalls, where no itinerary told you to stop—but you’re glad you did.
